Charity

Bible verses about charity.

These verses collectively illustrate that charity, in the eyes of God, is an expression of love, compassion, and generosity towards others.

  • 1 Corinthians 13:3: “If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” This verse emphasizes that charity must be done with love to have true value.

  • Matthew 25:35-36: “For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Jesus teaches that acts of charity are acts of service to Him.

  • Proverbs 19:17: “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” This verse shows that God values kindness to the poor and promises a reward for such acts.

  • Luke 6:38: “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” This verse highlights the principle of generosity and the blessings that come from giving.

  • 1 John 3:17: “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” This verse challenges believers to show God’s love through their actions by helping those in need.
