Financial Abuse

Bible verses about financial abuse.

Proverbs 22:22-23:

“Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and do not crush the needy in court, for the Lord will take up their case and will exact life for life.”

  • This verse warns against exploiting the poor and assures that God will defend those who are oppressed.

    Isaiah 10:1-2:

“Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.”

  • It condemns those who create laws or systems that oppress the poor and vulnerable.

    James 5:1-6:

“Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.”

  • This passage speaks against the rich who exploit their workers and live in luxury at the expense of others.

    Micah 2:1-2:

“Woe to those who plan iniquity, to those who plot evil on their beds! At morning’s light they carry it out because it is in their power to do it. They covet fields and seize them, and houses, and take them. They defraud people of their homes, they rob them of their inheritance.”

  • It highlights the condemnation of those who use their power to defraud and rob others.

    Ezekiel 22:12-13:

“In you, they take bribes to shed blood; you take interest and make a profit from the poor. You extort unjust gain from your neighbours. And you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign Lord. I will surely strike my hands together at the unjust gain you have made and at the blood you have shed in your midst.”

  • This verse condemns taking advantage of the poor through unjust gain and extortion.

These verses collectively show that God strongly condemns financial abuse and exploitation. He advocates for justice and protection for the vulnerable and warns of severe consequences for those who engage in such practices.
