Looking After Yourself

Bible verses about looking after yourself.

As Christians, we are called to love and take care of others. But we also need to take care of ourselves. Self-care is important, not just for our physical health, but for our spiritual and emotional well-being. In this post, we will explore 10 Bible verses that remind us to prioritize self-care.

Psalm 23:2-3 - He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

  • This verse reminds us that God wants us to rest and be refreshed. It’s important to take breaks and spend time doing things that bring us joy and peace.

Matthew 11:28-30 - Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

  • Jesus invites us to come to him and find rest. We don’t have to carry our burdens alone. We can cast our cares on him and find comfort.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.

  • Our bodies are sacred and should be treated as such. We should take care of our physical health by eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 - There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

  • This verse reminds us that there is a time for work and a time for rest. We should be mindful of balancing our responsibilities with our need for rest.

Proverbs 17:22 - A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

  • Laughter and joy are good for our mental health. We should make time to do things that make us happy and bring us joy.

Isaiah 40:31 - But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

  • When we rely on God, he gives us strength to do what we need to do. We can rest in the knowledge that he is with us and will help us through difficult times.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 - Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Gratitude and prayer are important aspects of self-care. When we focus on the good things in our lives and seek God’s guidance, we find peace and contentment.

Colossians 3:23-24 - Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

  • We should do our best in all that we do, but also remember that we are working for God, not just for our own success. When we keep our focus on him, we find fulfillment and purpose.

Romans 12:2 - Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

  • Renewing our minds with truth from God’s word is an important part of self-care. We should be intentional about spending time in study and reflection, so that we can grow in our understanding of God’s will for our lives.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 - Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.

  • Community is crucial to our well-being. We should cultivate relationships with others who can support, encourage, and lift us up when we need it.

In conclusion, taking care of ourselves is an important part of loving and serving others. When we prioritize self-care, we are better equipped to fulfill our God-given purposes and make a positive impact on the world. May these 10 Bible verses inspire us to rest, refresh, and renew ourselves, so that we can be the vessels God has called us to be.
