Bible verses to tell the Christmas story.

The Christmas story, which recounts the birth of Jesus Christ, is primarily found in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Here are the key passages:

    The Annunciation to Mary

Luke 1:26-38: The angel Gabriel visits Mary in Nazareth and tells her that she will conceive a son by the Holy Spirit and name him Jesus. Gabriel explains that Jesus will be great and called the Son of the Most High.

    The Birth of Jesus

Luke 2:1-7: Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem for a census ordered by Caesar Augustus. While they are there, Mary gives birth to Jesus and lays him in a manger because there is no room for them in the inn.

    The Shepherds and the Angels

Luke 2:8-20: Shepherds in the fields near Bethlehem are visited by an angel who announces the birth of the Savior. A multitude of heavenly hosts appear, praising God. The shepherds go to Bethlehem, find Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus, and spread the word about what they have seen.

    The Visit of the Magi

Matthew 2:1-12: Wise men (Magi) from the East follow a star to Jerusalem, seeking the newborn King of the Jews. King Herod, feeling threatened, asks them to find the child and report back. The Magi find Jesus in Bethlehem, worship Him, and present gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. They are warned in a dream not to return to Herod and go back to their country by another route.

    The Escape to Egypt

Matthew 2:13-15: An angel warns Joseph in a dream to flee to Egypt with Mary and Jesus to escape Herod’s plan to kill the child. They stay in Egypt until Herod’s death.

These passages collectively tell the story of Jesus’ miraculous birth, the fulfillment of prophecies, and the humble circumstances surrounding the arrival of the Saviour.
